Eating Healthy To Lose Weight
Losing weight seems to be a big problem for many people, yet it really comes down to just two things: eating a healthy diet and getting some exercise. Taking the second point first, it is obvious that man has not evolved to be a sedentary animal, and yet so many of us have sedentary jobs, just sitting at a desk all day. It is no wonder that many people consume far more calories than they can ever use in their daily activity, as their daily activity is so little. Even a brisk half-hour walk each day is a help in burning calories as well as helping to exercise joints and keep them supple, and to lower blood pressure. With regard to diet, it is apparent that the last 50 years has seen a rapid growth in the consumption of refined carbohydrates by Western society.
With food generally becoming more expensive, carbohydrate food is much cheaper to produce than protein. Also, carbohydrate foods are easier to package, easier to make look attractive, and keep longer. It is no wonder that food manufacturers push these foods at us in ever increasing different ways. For a healthy diet it is important to restrict refined carbohydrates as much as possible, eating instead more complex, unrefined carbohydrates. It is also important to eat a high quality protein source with each meal. Quality proteins come from fish, grass-fed meats, grass-fed dairy, and from plant sources such as nuts and beans. Getting ample quality protein helps to build lean muscle if you do a little regular working out. This in turn helps to boost metabolism and burn calories, keeping weight down.
Foods To Help Lose Weight
It is also important to have some fat in your diet for proper hormone synthesis, nerve and brain function, and for the absorption of vitamins. Adequate amounts of fat also help to satiate and hence control appetite. Healthy fats are obtained from raw nuts, seeds, eggs, avocados, olive oil, coconut oil, and grass-fed meats. By eating as little in the way of processed foods generally, you are doing your body a big favour. Processed foods tend to have high sugar content, i.e. refined carbohydrate, plus all manner of artificial flavourings and colourings which in themselves can be undesirable in the long term as our bodies do not always have the means to metabolise them.
If you try to eat natural foods as much as possible you will gain the maximum vitamin content, and will be less likely to pile up calories in excessive amounts. If the body cannot use all the calories available to it in food consumption, then the excess calories, whether fat or carbohydrate derived, are turned to fat to be stored in the body. Civilisation has not necessarily been the best thing for the human diet, but, with a little knowledge you need not succumb to becoming one of the many overweight people who are at risk from various health problems, and who suffer diminished self-esteem from an unattractive appearance.
